Novodeco’s 18 new earring designs (The “Light Play” Collection, as I like to call them) demonstrate a rigorous rethinking of the hoop. And it’s about time. Since the classic hoop is a very useful accessory in the jewelry box of every fashionable woman, that doesn’t mean it has to be the same EXACT classic design through the millenia! Novodeco has already done some hooperior work on our Half Moons and Bauhaus Matrix designs. This newest Modernist reworking of the hoop takes the simplest, most playful neon acrylics and juxtaposes two layers of color and two layers of pattern to make a third version of each. A timely design for spring/summer considering how neons, color blocking and color pops are all the rage in the fashion press now. Equally fun, these earring designs are reversible – so while the two colors making a third apply to either side, the tints are different depending on how you wear them. In other words, Novodeco’s “Arrows YRO (Yellow Red Orange) where the yellow is the first layer over the red, let’s you see the two main colors plus a tangerine orange at the intersection. Reverse the pair and the layers are red over yellow, making a near sunburnt orange. Fun! Since these designs use less expensive materials and less complicated assembly, I’m able to price them at $38 a pair! But if you factor in the reversible aspect of them, it’s like getting two pair for $19 each.
