Hoopla vs. Hoop blah. Novodeco’s new neon classic earrings.

Novodeco’s 18 new earring designs (The “Light Play” Collection, as I like to call them) demonstrate a rigorous rethinking of the hoop. And it’s about time. Since the classic hoop is a very useful accessory in the jewelry box of every fashionable woman, that doesn’t mean it has to be the same EXACT classic design through the millenia! Novodeco has already done some hooperior work on our Half Moons and Bauhaus Matrix designs. This newest Modernist reworking of the hoop takes the simplest, most playful neon acrylics and juxtaposes two layers of color and two layers of pattern to make a third version of each. A timely design for spring/summer considering how neons, color blocking and color pops are all the rage in the fashion press now. Equally fun, these earring designs are reversible – so while the two colors making a third apply to either side, the tints are different depending on how you wear them. In other words, Novodeco’s “Arrows YRO (Yellow Red Orange) where the yellow is the first layer over the red, let’s you see the two main colors plus a tangerine orange at the intersection. Reverse the pair and the layers are red over yellow, making a near sunburnt orange. Fun! Since these designs use less expensive materials and less complicated assembly, I’m able to price them at $38 a pair! But if you factor in the reversible aspect of them, it’s like getting two pair for $19 each.

This spring color blocks, pattern and texture talks!

While many used the holidays for a well-deserved vacation, we at Novodeco did not feel like resting on our pin/pendants, so to speak. Aside from the obvious discomfort that would cause, we felt oddly invigorated. Coming off our first full year in business, we could take pride in significant critical acclaim. Our first retail relationships…

Is your jewelry way more retro than modern? We’ll give you a free necklace to update!

For some strange and mysterious reason, the jewelry universe is about two centuries behind its customers. No one can explain this. Is it overt sentimentality and romanticism? It can’t be. Those feelings don’t cause us to travel on steam engine trains. Nostalgia hasn’t brought back girdles or spats The telegraph is hardly our favorite form…

If “Modern” is 100 years old, why is it still modern?

According to a number of renowned critics (but certainly not all), the age of modern began in the first decade of the 20th Century. Some cite Picasso’s “Les Demoiselles D’Avignon as the first marker of this noble movement, others can just as easily name architects and furniture artisans who, joining with painters, sculptors and creatives…

Jumping on the hat band wagon

Hats are taking over the fashion scene, and this isn’t a bad thing. In fact, after decades of people dressing down, dressing casual and finally, barely dressing at all, we at Novodeco were wondering just what lower tier there was to descend to. Then, perhaps a year or so ago, somebody started wearing a Fedora…

Squares dancing?

In a world of hoops, what chance does a square have? Well, fair’s fair and a square’s gotta do what a square’s gotta do. At Novodeco, we think a fair earring happens when you don’t fear squaring. So we celebrate it. Make that celebrate, squared. Or even cubed. Cubing gives a square a more fair…

I didn’t reinvent the wheel, maybe just the hoop a little

After a few thousand years of simple – and okay, classic – circular logic, it’s time for hoop earrings to mix it up a bit don’t you think? Novodeco has retained the symmetry of the sphere while breaking up the monotony. And with fall and the holidays just around the corner, what better way to…
